Happy Sweat

We get it - no one likes a stinky studio. But did you know that sweat can actually make you happier? In The Joy of Movement, Kelly McGonigal shares research showing that our bodies carry emotional signals in scent.

In one study, people who smelled the sweat of someone who had just experienced joy began to mirror that feeling themselves—their own moods lifted, simply by being exposed to the “happiness sweat.” Happy sweat actually smells *different* than other sweat. Our bodies are pretty amazing.

Movement doesn’t just change the way you feel inside; it literally creates a ripple effect that can be shared with others.

At Uprise, we celebrate sweat. It’s your body’s way of cooling you down, flushing out toxins, boosting your mood, and even supporting your immune system. Those post-class glistening forearms and glowing cheeks? That’s your body saying “Thank you.” Sweating is natural, healthy, and 100% a sign you’re showing up for yourself.

What’s not natural? Harsh chemicals masking that glorious evidence of hard work.

Why Our Studio Smells Different (On Purpose)

You’ll notice when you walk into Uprise, you’re not smacked in the face with “Mountain Breeze” or “Fresh Linen” scents — because those aren’t actually mountain air or fresh laundry. They’re synthetic fragrances made from a cocktail of undisclosed chemicals, many of which are known irritants, hormone disruptors, and potential carcinogens.

We choose to skip the chemical haze. Instead, we clean with natural, plant-based products that smell like real things (think lemon, eucalyptus, lavender) and are safe for the air you breathe, the skin you sweat through, and the planet we all live on.

We want every inhale in our studio to energize you, not expose you to unnecessary toxins.

Why We Recommend Going Natural with Deodorant

If you’ve ever looked at the ingredients on a traditional deodorant or antiperspirant, you’ve probably seen aluminum, parabens, triclosan, phthalates, and “fragrance” (that catch-all term that can hide dozens of chemicals). Some of these ingredients have been linked in studies to hormone disruption, skin irritation, and other long-term health concerns. (Read more about those concerns in this 2016 Times article : https://time.com/4394051/deodorant-antiperspirant-toxic/)

The biggie? Aluminum, which works by plugging your sweat glands to prevent wetness. But here’s the thing: your body is designed to sweat (not to mention, aluminum has no safely acceptable dosage for humans). Blocking that process isn’t just unnecessary — it could interfere with how your body naturally regulates temperature and detoxifies.

Switching to natural deodorant means you can still smell fresh without forcing your body to hold onto what it’s trying to let go of. Yes, there’s sometimes a “transition period” where your body adjusts — but trust us, it’s worth it.
